Representing Healthcare Workers Across California
Representing over 150,000 healthcare workers in the state of California, Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers (SEIU-UHW) West strives to attain excellence in the industry on behalf of workers, as well as the patients who utilize healthcare services. Members of SEIU-UHW are vital members of the healthcare community, and contribute their skills in nursing homes, hospitals, and other facilities.
In addition to uniting a diverse group of individuals in the healthcare industry and working to ensure that patients receive the best care possible, SEIU-UHW also stays active in the national and global community. For example, in November 2013, SEIU-UHW pledged to donate $100,000 for typhoon relief in the Philippines. Other community outreach efforts include the organization’s "Let’s Get Healthy California" campaign, which aims to reduce the levels of chronic disease in local communities, as well as the overall cost of health services.
SEIU-United Health Care Workers West strives to give its members greater bargaining power than they would have otherwise. By advocating for important employee benefits, such as higher wages and increased workplace safety, the union hopes to make a difference in the healthcare field.
