Early Life and Education
David Rockwell was born in Chicago, Illinois but also spent some of his childhood in Deal, New Jersey and Guadalajara, Mexico. His mother worked as a vaudeville dancer and choreographer.
David attended Syracuse University, where he brought his love of the theatre and eye for the colour of Mexico to his training. He also studied at the Architectural Association in London.
Rockwell began his work with other firms, but in 1984 he founded his own design firm called the Rockwell Group. He has led numerous design projects of retail and restaurant interiors, hospitals, theatres and museums, as well as set designs.
Here are only a couple of Rockwell Group's design projects:
*Alex Hotel, New York City
*Children's Hospital at Montefiore
*Kodak Theatre, home of the Academy Awards ceremony (Los Angeles)
*Nokia Theatre Times Square
*The Walt Disney Family Museum, San Fransisco
