Low Brow and Middle Brow Culture

The 1920's brought an era of entertainment, which helped cause an increase in materialism but also caused the "lost generation" from World War I to write about the new shallowness of American culture.

3 important things:

The 20's brought an increase in entertainment such as in radios, music, writing, and art, which evolved with an increase in materialism.

Many writers, such as Sinclair, exposed the shallowness of the new American culture as well as religious hypocrisy.

The "lost generation" left from World War, including Hemingway and Fitzgerald, thought that the war was futile and expressed these ideas in their writing, such as existentialism.
