The Objectification of Men and Women in the Media
Today, more and more children are being exposed to unrealistic images of what a person's body should look like. This can cause children to have low-self esteem and self-confidence.
Media exposure that is high in objectification can cause people to start to view their bodies as objects to be looked at by others. This low-self esteem and self-confidence can lead to depression, anxiety, stress, or suicidal thoughts and/or actions.
Many youth are impressionable by things such as media and advertising. Seeing images such as these enforces that they need to have the perfect body and act a certain way.
This is the greatest problem facing 8th graders today because of all of the negative effects that the objectification of people in the media can have.
