Giant Squid

Scientific Name:  Architeuthis dux

The giant squid can be found in seas up to 10,000 feet deep.

They are most commonly found in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans but not in either tropical or polar regions.

It uses its suction cups on its tentacles to grab and hold onto fish or other squid while eating it with its beak.  It's only real enemy is the sperm whale which finds the squid to be a tasty meal!

It is about 10 times larger than the average 6-foot man.

Fun Facts:

(1) It is one of the largest known invertebrates in the known universe.

(2) The Kraken myth was probably based on this creature.

(3) It may be one of the smartest creatures in the sea.
