About Soner Tarim

With more than 20 years of experience in education, Soner Tarim, PhD, has established a solid reputation as an advocate and proponent for the charter school system. As founding member and superintendent of Harmony Public Schools (HPS) in Texas, Soner Tarim, PhD, has changed the face of education for students in the state by emphasizing science, technologies, engineering, and math (STEM) opportunities. He has also played an instrumental role in developing STEM academies that emphasize college readiness and track the progress of the schools’ high performing students.

Over the course of his 24-year career, Dr. Soner Tarim has instituted innovative programs and curricula that have earned his schools a top spot among the country’s academically competitive institutions. In 2012 and 2013, HPS was named among the Best High Schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report. HPS also hosted the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering and Environment) Project Olympiad, or I-SWEEEP, in 2012, which brought together the brightest young minds from 69 countries and 44 states to share their thoughts on how to design a more sustainable future. With 38 locations throughout the state, HPS has garnered numerous awards and accolades under Dr. Soner Tarim’s direction and leadership.

Sharing his knowledge and expertise with others in the charter school community, Dr. Soner Tarim has published numerous peer reviewed articles, guidelines, and policies for charter schools in the areas of human resources, governance, and admissions. Soner Tarim, PhD, is a highly sought after speaker and consultant for STEM and charter conferences, where he shares his invaluable knowledge about to develop innovative programs for charter schools.
