The Mongols were ruled by Khans, or chiefs, the most famous being Genghis Khan (Temujin), which means "Universal Ruler." He led the Mongols to conquer China, by 1227 all of China was under foreign rule. The empire split into multiple khanates, each khanate was ruled by a Khan. Kublai Khan ruled China, in order to gain the loyalty of the Chinese he made a dynasty called the Yuan Dynasty, he made the capital Beijing. The Chinese lost a lot of power and rebellions sprung up causing the end of Mongol rule in China.
