Chitwan National Park in Nepal

Chitwan National Park is one of the best tourist destinations in Nepal. It is listed in the World Heritage list. It lies in the lowlands or inner terai of southern central Nepal having international border with India. It is rich in flora and fauna. It is easily accessible via roadways or airways.
The park is the most chosen tourist destination especially because of One-horned Asian Rhino and Royal Bengal tiger. A study conducted in 2011 showed that there existed 503 one- horned rhino which was almost double than that of the number found in 1980. In 1980 the number of adult Bengal tigers was just 40 which drastically started growing and in 2010 it was found that there lived 125 breeding adults Bengal tigers. The increasing number of these rare species has enriched the World Heritage value.
The park provides habitat for more than 350 species of birds. We can see hundreds of kind of animals such as sambar, chital, hog deer, barking deer, wild pig, monkeys, otter, porcupine, yellow-throated marten, civet, fishing cat, jungle cat, striped hyena, Indian fox, Leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, gaur, dolphin, mugger crocodile and gharial, …..etc. It is found that some 99 species of fish inhabit in the rivers and lake in the park.
The park is said to be the last surviving example of natural ecosystem of Terai region and covers subtropical lowlands. The land scape is so wonderful. The forest looks so gigantic with more than 60% of Sal trees. The forested hills and ever changing river landscapes have made chitwan one of the most superb and attractive parts of Nepal’s lowlands. It is situated in a river valley basin.
The glory of the park is enhanced by the rich cultural activities of the aboriginal Tharu community. They are a part of the park. Their hospitability is observed to be the best by the visitors and tourists.

One of the best attraction of Chitwan National Park visit is Elephant Safari (Elephant Ride). One can have a chance to observe the natural as well as cultural diversities existing in Nepal through the park visit.
