Germany and Adolf Hitler's role in WWII.
Adolf Hitler's Rise to Power-- Mein Kampf
After the collapse of the Beer Hall Putsch rally, Hitler along with General Erich Ludendorff were put on trial and were sentenced up to five years for treason. Hitler only served for eight months of his term. In prison Hitler wrote Mein Kampf which was supposed to be an autography but Hitler went over the top describing himself. It also showed his view of the German people and their future. He targeted several groups such as commies (communists) and internationalists but the Jewish people were targeted the most.
Hitler quickly reestablished the NSDAP (NATIONAL SOCIALIST GERMAN WORKERS' PARTY: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterparte) in 1924. This party was organized to the "Fuhrer" principle. Which basically meant that the party was headed by the Fuhrer, his deputy, and the national leadership with the Reichsleiter.
The economy in Europe after WWI and before WWII was in some ways quite like the US. High unemployment and high inflation factors affected a majority of the German Republic. During the war, Germany was not able to import and export goods, which caused greater economic stress. But during the early to mid-1920s, Germany experienced a prosperous few years. The Stock Market crash in the US, was what led Germany to a huge economic decline.
The Nazis gain their support any where they could; mainly from the poor and lower-middle classes. These groups were very strong in their Nationalistic views. Most supporters were Protestants.
September 1939--WWII Begins
In 1938, Hitler wanted to annex Austria and Sudetenland. Hitler ordered the Nazis to invade Poland on September 1, 1939, which infuriated France and England. The two countries then declared war against Germany. Blitzkrieg (lightning war) consisted of German tanks and other military weaponry took over a good portion of western Europe. Nation after nation fell to the Nazis and their Fuhrer. Hitler ignored a non-aggression pact made with the USSR in August of 1939. Which prompted Russia to enter WWII. The Nazi's won several battles before falling to Russia. The US entered the war in 1941. When the Allies were invading and bombing the German territories, German towns and establishments were destroyed. Germany's most important ally, Italy, had fallen under the Fascist dictatorship of Benito Mussolini.
