# How to do dilation figures

If one figure is bigger than the other but the figures look exactly the same then you might need to **Dilate**.Dilation means to use a **Scale factor**(a number or fraction that you multiply by) to make the figure bigger or smaller.

# How to do Reflection

Picture this ,you're doing your math test and you see something like this.

**Transformation**allows you to take any figure and flip it over the x or/and the y-axis, kind of like a mirror.what you have to do is really simple you just have to multiply -1 by the x coordinates if you are trying to reflect over y-axis and if you want/need to reflect over the x-axis then multiply the y coordinates by -1.

The symbols are -1(x,y)=(-x,y) for over y-axis, and the x-axis is -1(x,y)=(x,-y)

# How to do Translation

WOW I'm i right?I mean this thing has negatives and positives .... wow.Well if it's that complicated to you let me just help with it.To translate all you have to do is right down all of the figures points then read the words when it says "7 units left" it means add negative 7 to all the points x coordinates.If it said"7 units __right__ " then that means to add seven to all the figures x-coordinates.Now that you know that let me tell you about the y-coordinates.if it says"3 units down" then that means that you add negative 3 to all your y-coordinates and if it says "3 units up"that means add 3 to your y-coordinates.

# How to do Rotation

Everybody knows what rotation means right? well not as many know the one I'm talking about.

Rotation is the circular movement around a fixed point. That fixed can be the origin or a point on the figure.there are two different circular movement clockwise and counter-clockwise.to do some rotation fun just get your fixed point (the origin) then you have to decide if you want to do 90,180, or 270 degree rotation.to do clockwise rotation 90 degree you have to switch the y and x-coordinates and multiply the the x by -1.to do 180 degree rotation DO NOT switch the coordinates but multiply both coordinates by -1.to do 270 degree you switch the coordinates then multiply both coordinates by -1.last but not least yo do counter clockwise rotation for 90 degree you have to switch the coordinates then multiply the coordinates by -1.By 180 degree you have to multiply the coordinates by -1.then to do 270 degree you switch the coordinates then you multiply the x by -1.

# Similartiy

to me the similarity is the most difficult one to process compared to all the other transformations .....so that means that shouldn't be that difficult.To do similarity first you have to know what it means.**Similarity **is that two figures are the same exact shape but are different sizes.

To truly know if two angles are similar translate the smaller figure to match one of angles to the bigger figure and if they match up then they are similar.You also have to write ratios to make sure each side is similar, for example PR and SU are similar because if you translate figure PQR on STU they would be similar.to show that the figures are similar you have to show the figures PQR (squgglie line)STU.
