About Stephen F. Been
A real estate executive and entrepreneur with more than two
decades of experience in his field, Stephen F. Been currently serves as
chief executive officer of Legacy Communities LLC, a residential
homebuilder based in Atlanta. Raised in Georgia, Stephen F. Been
graduated from Frederica Academy on Saint Simons Island before enrolling
at the University of Georgia, where he pursued studies in finance.
Following receipt of his bachelor’s degree, Mr. Been launched a prolific
career in new home construction, developing a wide range of residential
properties in the southeastern United States. Mr. Been and Legacy
Communities have won numerous industry awards in recent years, including
the company’s top ranking among Atlanta homebuilders from Metrostudy in
2007 and Mr. Been’s 2009 Homebuilder of the Year Award from
Professional Builder Magazine. Today, Stephen F. Been continues to guide
Legacy Communities’ operations as the company builds high quality,
affordable homes for families and supports a wide range of nonprofits
throughout the region.
In tandem with his work at Legacy Communities, Stephen F. Been is an active philanthropist who supports a variety of worthy causes, particularly in the Atlanta area. Mr. Been has sponsored numerous charities that help those in need, including the Frank Ski Kids Foundation, Leadership DeKalb, and radio station V103’s Back to School initiative, which provides school supplies and other necessities to children from underserved communities. In addition, he has contributed to the South Fulton Little League and served on the Board of Visitors for Frederica Academy. A gifted athlete, Mr. Been won numerous athletic awards while playing multiple varsity sports at Frederica Academy, which inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
