1938 - Mandela attends University of Fort Hare

1944 - First marriage to Evelyn Ntoko Mase

1952 - Mandela starts law practice in South Africa.

December 5, 1956 - Mandela arrested on treason charges.

June 14, 1958 - While on trail married a second time to Nomzamo Winifred.

March 21, 1960 - Police fire on a demonstration killing 69 people and wounding 181.

March 29, 1961 - Acquitted for treason and flees underground.

December 16, 1961 - Mandela helps form Guerrilla Army.

August 5, 1962 - Is arrested again supposedly for leaving the country illegally.

July 11, 1963 - Government raid in Rivonia.

June 12, 1964 - Sentenced to life in prison from Rivonia trial.

June 16, 1976 - Thousands of students protest Afrikaans language in Soweto.

March 28, 1982 - Mandela was moved to Pollsmoor Prison from Robben Island.

February 10, 1985 - Mandela was offered pardon but refused.

November 28, 1985 - South African government secretly meets with Mandela.

June 12, 1986 - Government cracks down on Dissent.

December 7, 1988 - Mandela is transferred to Victor Verster prison farm.

December 5, 2013 - Nelson Mandela dies at 95.
