When arriving in Tokyo in the 11th year of Meiji, he meets a woman named Kamiya Kaoru, who is in the middle of a fight with a murderer, who claims to be the so called "Hitokiri Battosai", after tarnishing the name of the swordsmanship school that she teaches/owns . Kenshin decides to help her out and defeats the fake Battosai. After discovering that Kenshin is the real infamous assassin, Kaoru offers him a place to stay at her dojo, noting that he is peace-loving and not as cold hearted, as his reputation implies.

Theme: you may always be forgiven but what you did or said will never be forgotten.

Himura Kenshin is a very kind hearted guy, always there when you need him. He can be very protective when someones life is in danger. He regrets most of the things he did in his past. even though he is forgiven by the ones he hurts, he never forgets the pain he caused to people. this shows the theme of the manga you may be forgiven but never forgotten.

Kamiya Kaoru is the loving/caring type always doing her best to impress Kenshin.

Sagara Sanosuke is a wise man but also is sometimes stubborn. once his mind is made up he wont change his decision.

Takani Megumi is the shy one always keeping to herself never telling people what makes her upset.

Conflict: Most conflict that takes place in the manga, comes from Kenshin's past. Such as a former opponent, who had lost to him and obtain a mental scar from the battle.

Resolution: It comes down to Kenshin and his opponent, fighting it out till the last second.
