Religion ISU

for this Religion ISU, the gospel story I choose is the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

the video above is a depiction of the Jesus' parable of the good Samaritan, in which a man is robbed and beaten by thieves, and a Samaritan shows mercy on him.

According to the Gospel of Luke (10:25-37) a traveller is beaten, robbed, and left half dead along the road. First a priest and then a Levite come by, but both avoid the man. Finally, a Samaritan comes by. Samaritans and Jews are known to (generally) despised each other, but the Samaritan helps the injured man. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The Samaritan did this out of the goodness of his heart.

the parable of the good Samaritan is introduced to us when a question is asked regarding the Greatest Commandment.

But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" (Luke 10: 29)

Jesus then told the audience the parable of the good Samaritan. The moral of the parable was to tell people that they should be willing to help anyone in need regardless of their race, gender, social class or anything that can be used to discriminate them. You should follow the golden rule: One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. You should love your neighbours, as you love yourself.

The parable has inspired painting, sculpture, poetry, and film.

The Good Samaritan by Rembrandt shows the Good Samaritan making arrangements with the innkeeper.
