The Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre was built in with the materials and wood stolen from the first Theatre in 1599 when William Shakespeare and the Chamberlain's men were forced to leave becauese the owner refused to renew the lease.


William Shakespeare and his company built 2 Globe Theatre's, in 1613 there was a fire at the original Globe and the theatre burnt to the ground within two hours. A new Globe was re-built in 1614.

Women were not allowed to work as actors, young men would dress in women's clothes to play the part. The Globe Theatre was demolished by the Puritans  in 1644.

The Globe reopened in 1997 and they now perform Shakespeare plays.

The Globe Theatre can seat 3,000 people. It took 6 months to bulid. The theatre was also used for gambling and immoral purposes.
