Graphing Calculators are not required, but may be used. If you choose to purchase a graphing calculator, the LHS Math Department recommends the TI-84.
Grades are weighted so that your overall course grade is reflective of what you have learned in Algebra 2. As tests and quizzes are the biggest opportunity to showcase your learning, tests and quizzes have the greatest impact upon your grade.
We typically have an assignment every day, and we usually have some time to work on the assignment during class. Students may need to spend an additional 5 to 20 minutes finishing their assignment at home. We will check the assignment the next day in class. It is an expectation for students to go back and correct mistakes. Assignments will be turned in together at the time of the test or quiz. Some assignments will be graded based upon accuracy by peers and turned in.
Tests and Quizzes
We will have a test over each full unit of study (usually a full chapter). Quizzes are more frequent, typically covering a few sections. Missed quizzes and tests need to be made up as soon as possible. There are no retakes for tests and quizzes in Algebra 2.
At the end of each semester, there is a cumulative final exam covering all of the material from that semester. Students must take the final exam to receive credit for each semester of Algebra 2 Final exams will be worth 10% of the semester grade, as noted above.
This website is the hub for all information in Mrs. Gilmore's Algebra 2 class. Students can find the daily schedule for class work, activities, assignments, as well as links to worksheets, answer keys, test/quiz reviews. Videos to aid in learning, either when students are absent or in need extra help, will also be available. Bookmark this site!!
We will be utilizing an online textbook, online resources, online graphing programs, and other appropriate programs. During instruction, laptops should remain closed unless otherwise directed. During work time, students may use laptops to access the online textbook and other online resources. Mrs. Gilmore reserves the right to ask students to close laptops if they are being used in a manner not appropriate for Algebra 2. Mrs. Gilmore also reserves the right to remove the laptop from a student's possession until the end of the hour when necessary.
iPods and Music
Personal music devices may be used only when authorized.
It is important to learn how to use cell phones appropriately. Cell phones should be on silent. If students are using cellphones inappropriately or at an inappropriate time, they will be asked to put the cellphone away for the remainder of the class.
Cell Phone Calculators ARE NOT ALLOWED!
Getting used to an approved scientific calculator is one of the best test-taking strategies, as cell phone calculators are not permitted on any standardized testing, such as the ACT Test or the EOC Test. The LHS Math Department recommends the TI-30XIIS scientific calculator or the TI-84 Graphing Calculator.
