"You cannot have adoration without being criticized."

- Raf Simons

Raf is a world renowned fashion designer hailing from Belgium. Born in 1968 (still alive) in a town called Neerpelt.  His career began in furniture design industry, then later he launched his own menswear label in 1995. In April 2012 he was announced as, and still is, the creative director at Christian Dior.

Raf Simons is a very popular and well know fashion designer originating from Belgium. He originally trained in Industrial and Furniture Design but while still studying, he interned at the design studio of Walter Van Beirendonck, working on the decoration and presentation of his showrooms and collections. After graduating in 1991, Simons worked as a furniture designer. He was then later convinced and supported by the head of fashion at the Antwerp Royal Academy,  Linda Loppa. Raf decided to change his profession and became a self-taught and a self-trained menswear designer. In 1995 he launched his own label, Raf Simons. Initially, he worked with Walter Van Beirendonck in Paris and was then exposed to the works of  Jean-Paul Gaultier and Martin Margiela. With the fast success of his brand he started to feel the pressure and stress of the business side of fashion and thats why he decided to take a break for almost a year in 2000 sometime in march. During this time he announced that he was leaving the fashion industry but decided to come back after a new deal with Belgian manufacturer, Gysemans Clothing Industry, was struck and the company was started back up again in 2001. Simons was also appointed the head professor of the fashion department of the University of Applied Arts in Austria on October 2000 and stayed till 2005. His line was known for having a relaxed but elegant look with a hint of sportswear thrown into the adolescent mix. In 2003 he on placed first to win the Swiss Textiles Award and a two years later he launched his new clothing line called, Raf by Raf Simons. Also in 2005 he was appointed the Creative Director at Jil Sander, overseeing both menswear and womenswear, with great acclaim of course. In 2008, Simons opened two flagship stores in Japan for his own label and that same year he expanded his label by adding bags, leather goods, footwear and eyewear. In february of 2012 he left Jil Sander to succeed John Galliano as the Creative Director of Christian Dior. His brand is still alive and going strong with new collections coming out at normal seasonal intervals. Simmons also has done a lot of collab work with other brands and people including Adidas own higher fashion line Y-3 headed by the legendary Yohji Yamamoto. You can find his work in many, but not too many, stores in person such as Barneys in NY for example but also a good amount of places online too such as his own personal site. I personally love his and his clothes styles and would wear them if i could, but they are a lot of money so i will have to wait a little bit first before I own a piece.
