Jimi was born on November 27,1942 in Seattle, Washington by the name of Johnny Allen Hendrix, and later changed it to James Marshall. Mr. Hendrix never took a guitar lesson. He died of drug complications in 1970. His mother was only 17 when he was born. Music had always been Jimi's "Go to thing". In 1957 Hendrix saw Elvis Presley preform. And got his first guitar a year later. In 1959 Jimi drooped out of high school. He worked unusual jobs wale going after his musical career. Hendrix joined the U.S Army in 1961 where he served for a year until being discharged a year later due to an injury. He played back-up for Little Richard, Sam Cook and the Isley Brothers. Jimi also created bands called Jimmy James and the Blue Flames who played gigs near New Yorks Greenwhich Village. In 1966 Jimi met Chas Chandler, a former member of the Animals who became his manager Chandler made Hendrix to go to London where he met with musicians Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell to later make The Jimi Hendrix Experience.While there, Hendrix built a fan base of England's rock royalty. Members of the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones who all enjoyed of Hendrix's work.in 1967, the band's first single, "Hey Joe" wich was a hit in Britain. when he went back to america he won over American music fans with his stunning performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, which ended with him lighting his guitar on fire. In 1969 Jimi performed at another legendary musical event at Woodstock him singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" amazed the crowds and show how much talent he really has.Jimi even had his own recording studio in which he could work with different performers and try out new songs and sounds.Hendrix tried with another group, forming Band of Gypsys in 1969 with his army friend Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles. The band never really got started Hendrix died on September 18th, 1970, from drug-related complications. this talented artist was only 27 years old at the time of his death, Hendrix left his mark on the world of rock music and remains popular to this day.A journalist wrote in the Berkeley Tribe, "Jimi Hendrix could get more out of an electric guitar than anyone else. He was the ultimate guitar player."
