Who- The Berlin Wall was built by the communist government of East Berlin. The people who were fleeing from East Germany to West Germany were called defectors.
What- First it was just a barbed wire fence, later a concrete block wall 12 feet high and 96 miles long was made. It was made to separate East Germany and West Germany.
When- The wall started being built on August 12, 1961, and it was taken down on November 9, 1989.
Where- West Germany was a democratic country, allied with Britain, France, and the United States. East Germany became communist country under control of Soviet Union. Berlin, Germany's capitol, was divided into two between the west and the east.
Why- Some people of East Germany decided that they did not like their way of government, so they started to move to West Germany. To stop this, the government put up a wall so they can't escape.
