Why I 3D Print for Education
I wrote a grant last year for a 3D printer. I won the grant a little over 1900 dollars. Now What? I had a makerbot printer picked out, but the price of the printer had dropped 300 dollars by the time that I got the grant so I purchased tons filament ( your ink in a 3 d printer) with the extra money.
Now how to use it in my class and make it meaningful for my students just not a play pretty. I found plenty of projects from the http://www.thingiverse.com/ site. Students were then assigned to draw prototypes of stuff we could 3d print, assigned articles to read about 3d printing, and how 3d printing can be helpful. Students discovered the following projects to 3d print that would help us with our content areas. One of the first projects my students and I printed was a terrain map of continental USA.
Now, we have progressed to creating our own 3d projects using https://www.tinkercad.com/ .

Next we started printing different historic sites around the World. (Check out Eiffel Tower)
We then started to find math stuff we could print to help reinforce our learning.
