First things first

Here we have a good example of eBook. It uses different links and videos that foster students’ participation and interaction. On this way, we favor students’ acquisition because they have plenty of opportunities to investigate. From my point of view, the content is very clear and it is quite original too. Nevertheless, I will say that it is not adapted for people with special disabilities. Nowadays, I think that it is something that we have to take into account.

Things to improve

However, here we can see some eBooks which are not interactive at all. They are like the normal textbooks which neither allows interaction nor investigation. I believe that they are not original at all and they do not include multimedia such as video or audio elements which do not fix in CLIL methodology anymore. Moreover, it is not adapted for people with special disabilities so not everybody can access to it.

Practice makes perfection

From my point of view, eBooks are a very useful tool to teach in class through CLIL. Creating eBooks does not consist of scanning a normal textbook, it consists of designing new activities which allow students to participate and investigate instead of following exercise by exercise from a book. In order to create suitable eBooks we have to take into account the quality of the content, the accessibility, originality and the multimedia used in the eBook. In this presentation, I have tried to give my humble opinion of eBooks styles taking into account the aspects mentioned before.

EBooks are quite new and teachers must get used to them. Probably, at the beginning, they seem to be very difficult and innovative but we must keep using them and at the end, they will be as easy tool as textbooks are now for the majority of the teachers. We are in the digital era and we, as teachers, must adapt ourselves to what society requires in order being part of it.
