Night Of The Broken Glass

                                                            November 9, 1938

kristallnacht, or the night of broken glass occurred on November 9, 1938.

A German official was killed by a Jewish teenager on November 7, 1938. This set off the Germans and they started attacking Jewish businesses and synagogues on November 9, 1938. 30,000 Jewish men were sent to concentration camps the next day just for being Jewish. During kristellanacht over 7,000 jewish businnesss and 250 synagogues were burnt down and trashed.

the cost of the glass damage done that night was $5million marks or $1,250,000 American dollars

The German storm troopers were the ones who attacked the Jewish but the local police were not allowed to interfere in any way.

about 36 people were reported to have been killed.

The Germans were not only destroying the buildings but they also raped and killed Jews. the SS men who killed people were not prosecuted but the ones who raped them were given to the police to deal with because sex between Jewish and non Jewish people was forbidden.

The Jewish people were also forced to pay for all of the damage that the SS men caused.

kristallanacht deeply upset the people in the surrounding countries not under Nazi rule.

The windows of a jewish business were smash and the store was looted.

The Germans ended up not letting the Jewish people use public transportation go to schools or even go to the hospitals. A lot of Jews left the country because the conditions were so bad that they could no longer live in German/Nazi controlled areas.
