Urban Blight and Revitalization

There are many urban centers throughout the country that suffer from the blight of economic depression. The lack of jobs and businesses can leave parts of any city without the infrastructure to support a thriving community. Urban revitalization is a courageous task to undertake, because it involves investing and taking chances on parts of a city that can be facing rising crime rates.

It’s never easy to point to a specific time when an urban area needs revitalization. The potential for growth plays a part in this decision, as does the current state of property values. Social commentators sometimes have trouble distinguishing when a revitalizing effort has started working in a given area. Property values are a good indicator. Typically areas that have been hit particularly hard by economic recession have depressed property values due to lack of interest in living in that area. When property values start to rise again, sustained urban revitalization has started making progress, causing more people to move back into the neighborhood.

Think Loud Development Bill Hynes says that the goal of his company is to revitalize underserved urban areas in Pennsylvania. Hynes’ company is based in York, PA. The headquarters were built in one of the most economically depressed parts of the city, but it is now seeing an immense decrease in crime due to the company’s presence. Hynes strives for each of his projects to provide a second chance for the residents and businesses in the surrounding communities.

The Power of Thinking Outside the Box

Some of the most wildly successful businessmen are known to think outside of the box. Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and the late Steve Jobs all had ideas that didn’t fit the mold of traditional thinking in their various areas of expertise when they began forming their groundbreaking companies. What these minds have in common is that they were willing and able to challenge the business models for their respective industries. Before Gates and Jobs came along, computers were huge machines that took up entire rooms.

Many businesspeople too often stay within their comfort zone when faced with difficult decisions. Many people fail to consider the unknown, and fear the possibility of failure.
