About Thomas DeFanti MD
Thomas DeFanti, MD, has served as a medical consultant with the
Stonington Institute of North Stonington, Connecticut, since 2010. After
two years of clinical experience, he logged sufficient hours in the
area of addictionology and accummulated enough medical education credits
to qualify for speciality examination. In February of 2013, Dr. DeFanti
was certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
There is an enormous public health burden presented by tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use disorders and related conditions. ABAM's mission is to promote the training and certification of an expanding number of physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of substance related disorders. Dr. DeFanti presently oversees all medical aspects for Stonington Institute’s drug and alcohol detoxification unit.
In addition to his addiction medicine credentials, Thomas DeFanti, MD, holds a medical degree from Georgetown Medical School in Washington, D.C. and a certificate in public health from the Muskie School of Public Service in Portland, Maine. He has also completed residency training in both family practice and obstetrics and gynecology.
