52 IN 52
The 52 Albums that define my love of music.
WHO: John Lennon and Yoko Ono : "Happy Xmas (War is over)"
When: Christmas, 1980. I was 1 1/2
Why: This is the absolute first song I ever remember consciously hearing. I remember my mother holding me and singing this to me. That moment is carved into my brain forever and its one of my favorite memories of my mother. This song is so beautiful, and it stands for something so innocent, and at the same time so powerful. To this day, I can't put it on or hear it and not get emotional. My parents were very large musical influences on me, as you will find out in the next coming weeks, but this song wins the top prize of making Ryan emo every time.
Go ahead and listen... try not to get emotional.
The Beatles as a whole had an influence on me as well, but nothing as strong as this song. I am more of a fan of earlier Beatles than later/solo but not many songs even come close to making me feel the way I do when this song is on. If you're around me and it happens, watch out! When this record came in the mail it took me a long time to actually play it, and when I finally did, my wife had to come give me a hug. Yeah yeah, I know, but everyone has one of these songs....and this just happens to be mine.
