Source 1: Website

This article is about the man who shipped guns to Aaron Hernadez and the fact that he was arrested and is sent to jail for 2 years for lying under oath.

  • Author: Associated Press ESPN; The author works for The New England Patriots and works hand in hand with them; That Aaron Hernandez was wrong.
  • Place & Time: May 6th, 2015 and published online. After time the meaning of the source will diminish because people will slowly start to stop caring but with it being recent, people will read it because it is current.
  • Prior Knowledge: Helping me to further understand the primary source is that I was ESPN network which had covered this since day 1 so if I watched ESPN I would know their standpoint and help to better connect with the author.
  • Audience: The article was created for anyone who follows the case, or anyone who was personally victimized by Hernandez killings- the families would want to know.
  • Reason: To let the public know that the person who provided guns was caught and sent to jail.
  • The main idea: To let people know that he was caught and action is taking place.
  • Significance: This source is important because ESPN knows everything first hand about what is going on in the sports world and can report quickly. I can inference that people behind the scenes of ESPN care about this topic and that's because people want to know about football killers who act innocent till caught.

Source 2: Newspaper

This article is about the man in Florida who sent Aaron Hernandez the guns that helped him in his murder and how he is being arrested and sent to jail for 2 years.

  • Author: Staff and Wire reports, The Sun Chronicle. I know nothing about this author other than they work for the Newspaper. The authors point of view is Hernandez is in the wrong.
  • Place & Time: May 5th, 2015 and published online and in the newspaper. After time the meaning of the source will diminish because people will slowly start to stop caring but with it being recent, people will read it because it is current. Also older folks who don't check online can get the information from the newspaper so it will be relevant to them when they read the paper daily.
  • Prior Knowledge: I have never read a newspaper in my life so I don't know much about the primary source other than newspapers are usually reliable.
  • Significance: This source is important because internet is not always reliable but people that tread the newspaper seem to go there when they want true facts and good sources. Therefore the paper wouldn't have published anything without it being 100% true or it would give the paper a bad name. I can infer that the paper looked into a lot of detail before publishing this so they must care and must have credible information.

Source 3: TV

This article is about Aaron Hernandez himself and how he got the guns. It explains that he sent $15K to the man in Florida to get the guns without anyone knowing.

  • Author: Crimesider staff, CBS News, Television, They are biased towards Aaron being a bad guy.
  • Place & Time: March 24th, aired on CBS News. This affects the meaning because it is not too current in that people will reference it for information leading up to what is happening now with Aaron Hernandez.
  • Prior Knowledge: CBS is always on TV so anyone who watches the News will know what's going on.
  • Audience: The article was created for anyone who follows the case, or anyone who was personally victimized by Hernandez killings- the families would want to know.
  • Reason: To let the public know that the person who provided guns was caught and sent to jail; also how the money got sent to the man PRIOR to the arrest; giving background information.
  • The main idea: To let people know that he was caught and action is taking place and how things built up to where they got to now.
  • Significance: This source is important because some people who may NOT know about the case and that are trying to figure things out will be searching for background information and this will help them to understand how Hernandez sent the money and where, so forth.

REACTION

I chose to focus on this topic and choose the articles I did because even as a girl, I am an avid sports watcher and actually myself watch ESPN every morning as I get ready for my day. Therefore, when the whole Aaron Hernandez murder occurred, I followed based on what I saw on TV. I chose my sources because I knew if I saw it on TV as ESPN then it would be online and I've seen my dad watch it on CBS because he watched the news everyday. When I was searching for current events and saw that yesterday it was announced on TV as I was watching ESPN that the man who lied under oath was sent to jail I knew I could use that for my topic because its probably one of the first cases that I have actually followed.

This situation is relevant to everyday lives and was something I chose to research because I never truly understood the idea of if a PROFESSIONAL football player who has so many people looking up to him can commit a crime in such a sneaky manner, imagine how many people we pass on the streets or look up to that seem normal are planning the same thing. It scares me that someone who has so much spotlight on them could pull something like murder off that any everyday person who doesn't have a spot light on them could do the same thing, but easier.
