Sutter wanted the area to be his empire and did not want to attract others to the area so it was decided to keep the discovery secret.
b. How do you think he felt when the news leaked out?
He felt horrible because he wanted the gold to himself. He wanted to be rich.
c. What effect would it have had on California if the news had remained a secret?
People wouldn't have food or supplies to survive. The people would not have gold only Sutter.
2. Why did the California gold rush cause the crime rate to rise so high?
People were taking gold away. Nobody had money.
3. Write a paragraph saying which route would you choose. Include the advantages and disadvantages of all the different routes in California.
The route I choose is the Overland- The California Trail because one good reason is that we will have to stop a couple times so we can make it. The problem would be that the heat would slow us down and not us being able to make it. A lot of people would die.
4. Some people made a fortune out of the gold rush. Write a paragraph explaining the best ways to make money.
The best way to make money is by having a job. If you work on the days you have to, then do it. If you don't you will not get rich or not have money. When you save, you will have a lot of money, besides paying bills and taxes.
