GAY RIGHTS AND MARRIAGE EQUALITY
Gay Rights are Human Rights
A topic that I am very interested in and passionate about is the topic of gay rights, the reason being is because of how there is so much controversy over it and how so many people are affected by this, but really the answer is clear. I know it's a controversial topic, but I think it should be legalized everywhere, it should be recognized as something that is alright and not abnormal. I believe that the arguments over gay rights and marriage equality is unnecessary. It's the pursuit of happiness, its a human right, it cannot be taken away from us. It would be unconstitutional and absurd to take away the right to marry the person we love.
During this process of going through tons and tons of articles and completing assignments based off that information, I've learned so much abut this topic. Being completely honest, before doing research, I only knew so much about this topic. After this project, I've learned that there is so much to it then just what we hear on the new and social media.
This photo shows the current map of the states' status in the "journey"to finally all having the freedom to marry. There are currently 37 states that allow the freedom to marry.
THe Fight For RIghts
Addressing the Problem
Some ways that we can address this problem and fight for the freedom to marry is by:
- Informing yourself on gay rights.
- Speaking out against bullying.
- Volunteering for a gay right/LGBT organization.
- Signing a petition for same-sex marriage.
- Registering to vote
- Writing out to your local state senator or representative.
- Spread The word, whether it be in person or on social media.
A Few Amazing LGBT Organizations
GLAAD (Gay , lesbian Alliance Against Defamation)- GLAAD works with print, broadcast and online news sources to bring people powerful stories from the LGBT community that build support for equality. And when news outlets get it wrong, GLAAD is there to respond and advocate for fairness and accuracy.
Human Rights Campaign (HRC)- The Human Rights Campaign is organized and is operated for the promotion of the social welfare of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. By inspiring and engaging individuals and communities, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
Out & Equal Workplace Advocates- Out & Equal works by shaping the future of LGBT workplace equality and inclusion. They also work globally.
Why This Matters IN the World Today
The reason why this topic of gay right and marriage equality is important and matters because so many people are fighting for their right to be happy and marry the person they love. I did this project because I wanted to inform people on not only whats been happening but what is happening. Its so important just because we're all fighting for our rights and these people may be fighting for a different right(s) than us, but there's nothing wrong about helping these people toward true happiness. I believe that we're all on this journey towards helping people to be happy and have their full rights.
