Mohandas K. Gandhi
Mohandas Gandhi was born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India. He was assassinated January 30, 1948 in New Delhi, India. A man named Nathuram Godse shot him at close range outside on the steps of a building where a prayer meeting was going to take place. Godse was a pre-eminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India and apostle of non-violence. Godse reasoned killing Gandhi would help Hindus and that Gandhi had pissed off many with his firearm. Godse didn't flee the platform to sensitize Hindu audience emotionally. Godse was a lone assassin. Godse despised Gandhi's beliefs about Hindus and Muslims being equal. When Gandhi was killed, a holiday in India was created on October 2 and is celebrated every year. Godse was sentenced to death November 15, 1949 and was hanged in Ambala Jail.
