A limerick is a poem that is written in five lines with an AABBA rhyme scheme. Often, limericks tell a short, humorous story. This is a poem that is often silly or whimsical as well. Limericks express all sorts of ideas, whether you want to talk about your big toe or you sister. Ironically when they first became popular they often expressed ideas that were crude and saddening. However, now days they make a lot of people laugh and have fun.

There once was a young boy named Nick
Who by chance was always being kicked
He tried not to fight
For he was smart, kind and bright
So he learned how to run really quick
