                  Salmonella is one of the most common food born bacteria in America.

Symptoms

symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. They develop 12 to 72 hours after infection, and the illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. But diarrhea and dehydration may be so severe that it is necessary to go to the hospital.

Who' at risk

                                 older adults, infants, and persons with chronic diseases.

                                 The incubation period of Salmonella is 12-72 hours.

How to prevent

Separate cooked foods from ready-to-eat foods. Do not use utensils on cooked foods that were previously used on raw foods and do not place cooked foods on plates where raw foods once were unless it has been cleaned thoroughly.

How dangerous is it?

Usually, symptoms last 4-7 days and most people get better without treatment.

But in some cases the symptoms can lead to dehydration.

The cuases

Contaminated eggs, poultry, meat, unpasteurized milk or juice, cheese, contaminated raw fruits and vegetables.
