About Germ Cell Tumors
Germ cell tumors are growths that form from reproductive cells. Most germ cell tumors that are cancerous occur as cancer of the testicles in males (testicular cancer) or cancer of the ovaries in females (ovarian cancer).
Signs of ovarian germ cell tumor are swelling of the abdomen or vaginal bleeding after menopause.
- Swollen abdomen without weight gain in other parts of the body.
- Bleeding from the vagina after menopause (when you are no longer having menstrual periods).
Some genetic syndromes caused by extra or missing sex chromosomes can cause incomplete or abnormal development of the reproductive system.
Stages Of Germ Cell Tumors
Stage 1: Cancer is found inside a single ovary.
Stage 2: Cancer has spread to the uterus or female abdomen.
Stage 3: Cancer is found in one or both ovaries and has spread to other tissues.
Stage 4: If it has spread then it has metastasized to other parts of the body.
Stage 5: Cancer cells in the fluid around the lungs is also considered stage IV.
