Marie Antoinette and Her Children at Versailles-1788
by: Vigee Le Brun
Thie painting was painted by the artist Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun. It was the last of 30 portraits she painted of the Queen. The picture shows Marie Antoinette, her daughters marie Therese Charlotte de France, madame Royale, and her son, Louis, Le Dauphin. Louis died shortly after due to natual causes. This painting is still hung in the Palace of Versailles. Marie Antoinette lived an easy life of royals and riches. When she became Queen to Louis XVI, she started spending all of France's money on herself and useless things that she didn't actually need. Her ruling didn't last long though, because on October 16th, 1793 the people of France had enough of her and she was sent to the guillotine. Vigee Le Brun's showed interest in the subject of neoclassical art, and usually focused on a style called Rococo, which was also used in this painting.
