You will be on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 50 yrs. after your 1st speech.

Start with the six questions on your assignment sheet. Answer those as thoroughly as possible. Below is an image of those questions.

Introduction paragraph

Write your introduction paragraph using the following format:

    · Attention Getter sentence

    · Topic Intro and transition sentence: current day situation with freedom and equality

    · Thesis: Opinion plus 3 topics (Progress, Current problems, solutions)

Body Paragraph 1: Progress

Using questions 1 and 2 from your prewriting, create a list of support for the topic of progress in equality and freedoms in America in the last 40+ years. Once you have done this, you can draft your paragraph using the paragraph format:

Topic Sentence

Support (examples of where you see progress in America) 2 or more

Commentary (tell how your example shows that America has made progress) 2 or more

Conclusion sentence

Body Paragraph 2: Problems

Using question 3 from your prewriting, create a list of support for the topic of problems that minorities still face in America. Once you have done this, you can draft your paragraph using the paragraph format:

Topic Sentence- about problems in America

Support (examples of where you see problems in America, especially from the minority point of view) 2 or more

Commentary (tell how your example shows that America still has problems to solve) 2 or more

Conclusion sentence

Body Paragraph 3: Solutions

Using question 4 & 5 from your prewriting, create a list of support for the topic of solutions to the problems that minorities still face in America. Once you have done this, you can draft your paragraph using the paragraph format:

Topic Sentence

Support (examples of how to solve problems in America and advice for Americans) 2 or more

Commentary (tell how your example shows that this will help solve the problems) 2 or more

Conclusion sentence

Let's Finish This Thing!

Your conclusion should wrap things up in a few sentences. This is the format you should follow:

Statement that restates the topic of the paper and the attention getter

Statement that ties back to your thesis (make sure to use your three key words)

A final concluding sentence that ties up any loose ends. (Your final words to the audience)
