About Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is a cancer that starts in the chest area. It is a disease in which malignant cells form in the tissues of the breasts. When breast cancer is detected early, at a localized stage the survival rate is 98%.
A lump thickening in the breast or underarm area. A change in the skin texture or enlargment of pores in the skin of the breast. A lump in the brest.
Some of the possible causes of breast cancer are if your family has had history of brest cancer at a certain age. A woman whos mother, sister,or daughter has had breast cancer is 2 or 3 times more likely to get it. Also there are genetic risk factors. Your race can also help decide if you will get it.
Metastasis is the development of secondary malignant growths at a distance from a primary site of cancer. Metastasis happens in cancer cells. Mitosis is what causes cancer to grow.
Stages Of Cancer
Stage 1 is the earliest detection of breast cancer development, also the cancer cells are confined to a very limited area. Stage 2 and 2A is when the cancer is still in the early stages, but there is evidence that the cancer has begun to grow or spread. It is still contained to the breast area and is generally very effectively treated. Stage 3A,B, and C is considered advanced cancer with evidenc of cancer invading surrounding tissues near the breast. Stage 4 (the worst stage of cancer) breast cancer indicates that cancer has spread beyond teh breast to other areas of the body.
Some of the treatments for breast cancer are surgery to remove the tumour and some nearby margins. Another treatment is chemotherapy, this treatment method uses a combination of drugs to destroy or slow down the growth of cancer cells. There is also radiation therapy, this treatment uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. It affects the nearby skin or cells only in the part of the body that is treated with the radiation.
The chances of survival vary by stage of cancer. Women with stage 0 and stage 1 cancer have a 100% chance of remmision. In women with stage 2 breast cancer they have a 93% chance of remmision. In women with stage 3 cancer they have a 72% chance of remission. However, in women with stage 4 breast cancer there is a 22% chance of remmision. Remmision is the decrease of your cancer, if it stops growing, shrinks, or dissapears you are in remission.
