The Fault In Our Stars
By Bradley Boyer
#1 It has inspired me and expressed feelings I have that I could never explain. This book told me to live no matter the struggles and that is the best part. I feel like John Green was literally inside of my head and was like "Hey. look something inspirational, don't be sad". If I would have gotten to choose the book I read I would not have chosen The Fault In Our Stars. I feel like cancer books are an easy way to make someone cry. Honestly I really liked this book, I would recommend this to anyone.
#2 Gus and Hazel's relationship changes because Gus didn't tell Hazel that he had cancer again. Gus knew about his cancer the whole Amsterdam trip but wanted her to still have a great time on the trip. The relationship between Hazel and Gus changed tremendously in chapter 13 when Gus told her. Everyone in the book thought that Hazel was the one that was going to be dying in the story. I think that is why the book was so sad because they changed it all up.
#3 I answered a question I was asked and the Question was "Would you have handled any particular situation different from any of the characters'"? I then responded "In Chapter 5 Gus reads the book Hazel gave him called “An Imperial Affliction”. Gus then emails the writer of the book Peter Van Houten and gets a response from him and he tells Hazel even though she has tried to do it many of times. Gus then sets up a trip to Amsterdam to see Peter Van Houten and he invites Hazel to go to. The way Gus reacted to this by telling Hazel he wants her to go with him is the same thing i would do if i was in love with someone they liked what I was going to go do. I would not have done anything different in Gus’s perspective. He did an awesome thing but Hazel was not ready for travel as her Doctors told her. If I were Hazel and I was in the same situation as her i would be upset but there would be nothing I could do about it so I would not have handled any situation different.
#4 The book is quite interesting! It is suspenseful because you can't tell what is going to happen next. The book honestly got to me in many ways such as making me sad, happy, mad, etc. Gus said "I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up my friend". The words of Augustus Waters is my new favorite quote.
#5 It's a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing.”(page 20) This is one of my favorite lines from this book. I like this because of the choice he made with the cigarettes instead of actually using them! I was surprised to hear Gus say that about them because, I have never heard anything like that about cigarettes before.
