captain of the fire department
indirectly : Intelligent
Beatty is indirectly characterized as intelligent in Fahrenheit 451 . one example of this is Beatty claims he, like Montag, once became interested in books . Beatty knows about books more than anyone else. Most of Beatty's words are quoted from books. Beatty seem to have a problem about books and burns them. He calls books treacherous weapons, yet he uses his own book learning to manipulate Montag mercilessly.
Beatty was a directly characterized as Aggressive. One example of this is at the end of sections two, Montag returns to work and beatty nearly attacks Montag, aggressively quoting book after book at him, to make the point that books can be used to serve anyone's argument, no matter what it is.
