In the Western Cordillera the soil is dense because of heavy rainfalls (similar to the prairie Forest). Up the mountains, there isn't that much vegetation. because the soil in very thin, and the temperatures are cold.

Temperatures in the Cordillera vary with latitude and elevation: moderate summers (15°c) moderate winters (-12°c); precipitation varies with elevation and physical dispects. In the valleys temperatures are warmer in the valleys than higher than the mountains. The soil in the Cordillera is dense because of heavy rainfalls.
