Meeting Someone Unexpected
By: Ashley Herrman
When Scarlet opened her eyes that morning and got ready for school, she thought it would be another boring day at school. With doing work and only having the few classes with her friends, she was not looking forward for her day at hight school.
Well, if only she knew what today was about to hold.
Scarlet got dressed in a favorite outfit of hers. A pair of light washed skinny jeans with a pair of cream colored Uggs, and to top it all off, a 5 Seconds of Summer band T-shirt. It was Scarlet's favorite seeing as how 5sos was her favorite band of all time.
Happy with her outfit, she brushed her hair, had a quick breakfast and walked to the high school witch was only a few blocks down.
As Scarlet walked to school, she listened to songs off of her iPod. Some of the songs including her favorite bands including 5sos, All Time Low, Blink-182, Mayday Parade, with the occasional Adele and many, many others.
When she got to school, she thought everything was the same, but that was before she saw the big buss in the middle of the school parking lot. At first she thought it was just for some football game that was an away game, but that's when she came to the conclusion that their were not any sports event today. And that's when she became suspicious.
Thinking nothing of it, she passed by the buss, not giving it another glance as she saw her best friend waving her hand through the air, drawling her attention.
The first two classes were the same as any other, and boring. Her and her friends talked and talked and obsessed over 5 Seconds of Summer, and how Michael, the guitarist and vocalist had dyed his hair yet agin. Instead of green, it was red.
But that's when talk started flowing through the halls of the high school. Talk that got Scarlet wondering.
"Have you seen the bus?" Some one in the hall had asked.
"They covered the side with a sheet, why?"
"Who's buss is it?"
"What is the school hiding from us?"
That and more was going through Scarlet and her friends head, plus the many other student at the big high school.
It was drawing to 5th period, and Scarlets head was exploding with questions when she heard the intercom come on with a high pitched squeal.
"Student and teachers, please make your way to the front of the lawm for a special surprise." Said the secretary that Scarlet couldn't quite remember the name of.
Scarlet and her friends all made eye contact, all wondering the same thing.
"What's going on?" One of them voiced. Her name was Abby.
"I don't have an idea... You think it has to do something with the bus out front?" Scarlet asked. Her friends shrugged. As they made their was to the front yard, they squeazed their way to the front, saying their 'sorry's as they went. They were the first ones out of the school, thankfully, but when Scarlet and her freinds made it outside, they all thought this was a dream, because their was no way on earth this was happening; that they were going to have a chance to meat them.
I want really nervous, me and my band mates never got nervous before a show, no, it was mostly just excitement. This was the first time my band would every play for a school, and I thought it was really cool that me and my best friends would be able to play for a school, much like the school that we had attendant before we started the band three years ago in Sydney, Australia.
"Hey, Lucas!" Ashton yelled from the backstage. I looked up at him with a questioning look. He continued. "You ready? First show for a school, isn't this cool?!" I nodded my head as I ran my fingers through my hair.
"Yeah, can't wait to get out their and play. That's always the best part." Ashton nodded as Calum and Michael walked out from the tour bus with their bass and guitar in hand.
"You guys ready?" Calum asked. We all replied with out various yeses. I was more then ready. I always loved when I was able to play for our fans. I love it that we could make music that everyone els somehow likes. We're still trying to finger out how people like out band, though.
"Alright guys! get on stage!" Our manager Greg said. We nodded with smiles and enthusiasm. We were ready for this.
I grabbed my guitar as Ashton grabbed his drum sticks. As we all looked at each other, we nodded and headed up to the stage, and instantly we were met with the screams of everyone outside.
Like I said before, favorite part of my job.
I could believe it. 5 Seconds of Summer were standing right in front of me, on the stage, holding their instrument, and-oh my gosh, I couldn't believe it. 5sos were axially here! I was freaking out.
And that's when they started talking.
"Hey!" Ashton yelled into his mic by his drums. "We're 5 Seconds of Summer, and we're here to play for all of you school kids!" I was smiling from ear to ear.
"We're going to be playing a couple of songs, hope you enjoy!" Michael said as he started strumming on his guitar. Luke started singing into the mic.
"I need your love to light up this house,
I wanna know what you're all about,
I wanna feel you feel you tonight,
I wanna tell you that it's alright
I need your love to guide me back home,
When I'm with you, I'm never alone,
I need to feel you feel you tonight,
I need to tell you that it's alright,"
And like that, 5 Seconds of Summer started singing Never Be.
After the song, they started up in their next song, and I knew instantly what song it was once Michael pulled out his acoustic guitar and Calum started singing.
"I drove by all the places we used to hang out getting wasted,
I thought about our last kiss, how it felt the way you tasted,
And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine,
Are you somewhere feeling lonely even though he's right beside you?
When he says those words that hurt you, do you read the ones I wrote you?
Sometimes I start to wonder, was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?
'Cause I'm not fine at all."
And they started on Amnesia. I still couldn't grasp the thought and the reality that Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, and Calum Hood were their standing right in front of me in real life. It was amazing. Their performance was just amazing, and they were only just beginning.
As they went through track and track, playing Heartache on the Big Screen, Long Way Home, Voodoo Doll, Close as Strangers and Independence Day, it was amazing. This had to be the best day of my life. So, as Calum said into the mic that this would be their last song, I was sad, but I was also just happy that I was able to see them perform. And when they started playing their last song, I knew instantly what it was.
"Simmer Down, simmer down,
They say we're too young now to amount to anything else,
But look around,
We work too hard for this just to give it up now,
If you don't swim, you'll drown,
But don't move, honey!"
As She Looks So Perfect came to an end, I was too happy. I just say 5 Seconds of Summer preform, and it was amazing! I would have never believed that they would come to my school and play for us. I mean, how did their management even let 5sos preform live for us? You know what, it really doesn't matter. I just matters that 5sos were able to preform for us.
As they said their good byes and they exited the stage, the teachers told us that it was about time for school to be dismissed witch was awesome, so we all headed our separate directions.
The whole walk home, I couldn't stop smiling, I had seen 5sos, my all time favorite band, and I couldn't be happier.
As I went to bed that night with the sound of Luke's voice coming through my speakers, I couldn't have been happier. I had met my idols, and that was all I could ask for at the moment.
