## Scientific Method

In the video a girl named Marci ask Tim and Moby "What's the scientific method?"

Tim and Moby explain to her that the scientific method is the way scientist figure out why things happen the way they do. They explain how you can use it for things you don't know about when you come across them. These steps and examples are:

1. Recognizing the problem

Example - Why is Moby's plant dying even though he waters it every day?

{ Optional } Write the things down that you already know.

Example - Tim wrote "Fig Plant" about Moby's plant

2. Observe the item your looking at

Example - Tim said "The leaves are brown and are falling off, and the soil is wet and squishy."

Example - Tim came to an conclusion that Moby has been watering his plant to much

4. Hypothesis is a testable explanation for your observation

Example - Tim wrote down his guess that "Fig plants do best if you only water them once a week."

5. Experiments are a way to test your hypothesis

Example - Tim and Moby took for healthy fig plants with the same type of soil, pot, sunlight, etc. Then labeled them A, B, C, D

6. Variable is the thing you change because you are testing it

Example - Each plant got an different amount of water

7. Conclusion is when you write what really happened to see if your hypothesis was or is correct

Example - Tim wrote "Of the four watering schedules we tested, fig plants seem to do best when they are watered once a week.

If you want to make your experiment a theory { an experiment that has been repeatedly confirmed through experimental testing } then you must do it several times and make sure you get the same answer
