The 52 albums that define my love for music

Week 14/Album 14

WHO: Peter Gabriel - "So"

When: 1987-ish

Why: Remember last week when I said music videos opened my eyes to the visual aspect of music, well nobody did it better in the 80's then Peter Gabriel. His videos were like watching awesome mini-movies that made absolutely no sense. "So" was such a great record because it introduced me to music that I had never heard before. Lots of world music incorporated with catch pop hooks, and perhaps the most influential "go get your girlfriend back" song of all times.

Where: Havent seen Peter Gabriel, but the last time he was in Cleveland it was still Gund Arena. I'm not sure I'd want to see him live though.

You know you love it!

Peter Gabriel is out there. His early work in Genesis was amazing, and at the time alot of people didn't get it. I wasn't familiar with that Peter Gabriel, but after watching and reading about his times in Genesis, its amazing they survived without him. When I first heard the whole "So" album, I didn't really like it. It was slower that most stuff I liked, but as my taste in music widened, it grew on me. Now, I love it. I think Peter Gabriel is a well deserved Rock Hall inductee. He was a pioneer in visual music. He blended styles and genres better than most.

Never forget, Lloyd Dobler
