A video explaining kinetic energy and potential energy. V
Kinetic energy- The energy of a body or a process with respect to the movement of the body or the particles in the system. An example of Kinetic energy is a rock, falling off a cliff. It is moving, off a cliff= kinetic energy.
Potential energy- The energy of a body or a process with respect to the position of the body or the arrangement of the system. An example of this is gasoline has energy waiting to combust in a engine.
Other useful words that have somethings to do with kinetic and potential energy are sound, mechanical, electromagnetic, and nuclear. Sound- is energy produced by vibrations. Mechanical- energy includes radio, microwaves, lights and x-rays. The sun produces a lot of this type of energy. Nuclear- energy comes from splitting the nucleus of an atom.
