"Basho Matsuo"

     Haiku is a form of poetry with a specific form. The 1st and 3rd lines are 5 syllables, and the 2nd line is 7 syllables. A haiku generally about nature, and very descriptive with adjectives and uses a lot of your senses. These poems originated in Japan. In the original Japanese Haiku, it was printed in a single column rather than the English form of three parallel lines.

An old silent pond...

A frog jumps into the pond,

splash! Silence again.

Autumn moonlight—

a worm digs silently

into the chestnut.

Lightning flash—

what I thought were faces

are plumes of pampas grass.
