Are the "Eyes" really watching?
In the novel, The Great Gatsby, the billboard of the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg was left many years after the business was closed down, but still watches everything that happens in the small town of Long Island, New York. The eyes of T.J. Eckleburg stands above the gray land, also known as the Valley of Ashes, in between the West Egg and East Egg. These mysterious eyes symbolize the eyes of God, by watching everything that happens in this town. The eyes of T.J. Eckleburg watched over everything from the unexpected death of Myrtle, to the affair Tom had with Daisy. The eyes spy over the characters in the novel, and also in the film, but give more detail in the novel.
