Africa Mask

I based my sketch off of a Woyo mask. Woyo masks are carved for the ritual dances of the ndunga; a male society responsible for maintaining social order. Woyo people are mostly fishermen who live on the Atlantic Coast in the Angolan province of Cabinda. The Woyo masks are painted with contrasting colors against a white background and colors that are used may have a symbolic meaning.

My mask was done with mostly pink and purple. These colors to me feel happy and that's what I think life is about. Being happy. These colors also remind me of my mom who I love so much, purple is her favorite color. I chose to put the symbol of 'blessing' because I am blessed in life. I also added the symbol of love because the relationship I am in know and the love I have for my family is so huge.
