When two of tectonic plates or  fragments of the lithosphere collide, creating a mountain.

This is the action that takes place when two tectonic plates collide, called convergent boundaries.

Divergent boundaries

When two tectonic plates move away from each other, creating a volcano.

This is what takes place when two plate boundaries pull apart creating a volcano. This action is call a divergent plate boundary.

Subduction Zone

When two tectonic plates collide sending on plate under and the other over, creating underwater caves and valleys.

This is the action when two plate boundaries colide called a subduction Zone.
