Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
60% of males and 50% of females are effected
Post traumatic stress disorder, also called PTSD, is a mental health disorder caused by experiencing or even seeing a traumatizing, shocking, violent, life altering event. It is not only a problem for soldiers, but recent studies have also shown that children growing up in urban hotspots for crime and delinquent behavior have been just as riddled with PTSD as our nation's warriors.
It is common for people to be effected by a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder without even realizing it. With this in mind, it is important for people to seek medical attention when symptoms arise like re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoiding reminders of the trauma, or increased emotional and anxiety sensitivity. Treatment ranges from over-the-counter drugs to therapy.
