Yosemite National Park

Have you ever hiked up a mountain , for three hours, and then hiked down for two and a half hours? Well I have at Yosemite National Park. The mountain that I hiked up was Glacier Point.

The Sierra Nevada Mountain Chain

The Sierra Nevada Mountain Chain has many mountains. Some of those mountains are Glacier Point, Half Dome and El Capitan. There are many more mountains but those are just a few.

The elevation of Glacier Point is 7214 feet. Its cliff face is covered with tiny water falls. When you are at the top of Glacier Point, you are able to see Half Dome.

Half Dome is another mountain at Yosemite. Half Dome is at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Valley rises more than 4737 feet above the ground. The elevation of Half Dome is 8840 feet!

A mountain at Yosemite that people have been killed trying to climb is El Capitan. El Capitan is the largest exposed granite monolith in the world! One of the reasons why it is dangerous is because it has boulders. 10 feet high boulders! The face of El Capitan is 3300 feet high!

Water Falls

A waterfall at Yosemite is Yosemite Falls. At 2425 feet, Yosemite Falls is the highest waterfall in North America! Along with Yosemite Falls, there is Ribbon Falls. Ribbon Falls has the highest single vertical drop!

At Yosemite, there are over 3.7 million people that visit each year! Most of those people spend their time at Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Valley is very large. It covers seven square miles of land!

Yosemite is in California. The overall area is 761286 acres! Yosemite is very large because of all of the mountains. Yosemite National Park covers three counties. The counties are Mariposa, Tudumne and Madera California.
