## Chapter 2 lesson 3

### Definitions

Transformation - moving a shape so that it is in a different position, but still has the same sides, areas, angles, and line lenghts.

Translation - the process of moving something from one place to another

Rotation - the action of rotating a figure around the axis or center.

Dilation - a transformation that either enlarges or reduces a figure by a scale factor.

Similar - having corresponding angles and corresponding line segment.

# Example

You have two triangles. Triangle ABC and triangle A'B'C'. Triangle ABC is bigger then triangle A'B'C'. This means that they triangle ABC was dilated by a fraction.

You have two rectangles. Rectangle DEF and rectangle D'E'F'. Rectangle DEF is in quadrant 1 and rectangle D'E'F' is in quadrant 2. This means that the rectangles were either reflected over the x or y axis or it was rotated by either 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees.
