Browns Mills Battlefield
July 27,1864, the day that general Edward McCook of the Union attempted to seize the rail lines but were stopped by the confederate troops with Major General Joe Wheeler. On July 30 three miles south of Newnan, Major General Joseph Wheeler caught and routed the federals. He caught thousands of men and released 500 confederate prisoners. Wheeler saved Newnan from capture and possible destruction on that day.
It is obvious that the Battle of Browns Mill is extremely significant. This battle could have been the end of Newnan. However, thanks to Wheeler Newnan lives on, and will continue to live on much longer!
